St. Nicholas the WonderworkerSaint Nicholas is the most revered saint in the Rus'-Ukraine since ancient times - he was born in Asia Minor in the second half of the III century (in about 270) in the Greek colony of Patara in Lycia in the Roman province in a family of wealthy Christian parents, in his youth he was given to the service of God under the guidance of his uncle, the bishop of Patara. His uncle brought him to the priesthood. The whole life of the saint really was a model of Christian service to God and others. When his parents died, St. Nicholas inherited their fortune, which he gave to charity. Saint Nicholas was a bishop of Myra, a city of Lycia, in Asia Minor (modern Demre), his ascetic life and miracles won fame during his lifetime.

Participating in General Assembly in Kyiv’s Independence Square

On Sunday, December 15, 2013, after the accomplishment of the Divine Liturgy and common prayer for unity, firmness and wisdom of the Ukrainian people, the clergy and parishioners of the Transfiguration temple joined the General Assembly meeting in Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square in Kyiv,, where again gathered almost a million of Ukrainian conscious people. People stood against arbitrary power, against criminal and violent actions of law enforcement officers, against selective justice and impunity for the real criminals.

Common prayer for unity, firmness and wisdom of Ukrainian people

On Sunday, December 15, 2013, in the Transfiguration of the Lord temple, after the completion of the Divine Liturgy, the clergy and church community had a common prayer for the heroic defenders of the Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square on the night of December 11, for the stability and wisdom to fight for their beliefs, for the unity in love, kindness and dignity of the people of Ukraine.

On Sunday, December 8, 2013, after the accomplishment of the Divine Liturgy and common prayer for our God-given motherland Ukraine, clergy and parishioners of the Transfiguration of the Lord temple joined the all-Ukrainian assembly in Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square to be with the people of Ukraine to pray and act in accordance with the words of the hymn of our independent state:

...Souls and bodies we'll lay down, all for our freedom,
And we will show that we, brothers, are of the Cossack nation!

Sunday, December 8, 2013, in the Transfiguration of the Lord temple, the clergy and the faithful had common prayer for Ukraine after completion of the Divine Liturgy. They prayed for God's help in preventing armed attacks on people, for spiritual cleansing of people's leaders and their wisdom to peacefully settle the difficult situation in the country, for our Motherland Ukraine, given us by God himself, and for good future for Ukrainian people.
