On Sunday, May 13, 2012, in the Cathedral of Transfiguration of the Lord of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Canonical, the clergy and the faithful prepared a concert to celebrate the Mother's Day, a holiday which is so close to the heart of every God's soul.

Since the beginning of the time, honoring mother and father has been one of the most sacred duties of the Ukrainian people. For three and a half thousand years ago on the stone tablets prophet Moses received from God on Mount Sinai, the words were carved: "Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged."

So, the Mother's Day is celebrated in Ukraine on the second Sunday of May, honoring all mothers in the world, as May is considered to be the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, who gave his Son for the victory of good over evil, for the salvation of the world.

During the concert the clergy and the faithful recited poems, sang songs in honor of Mother, both those on the earth and one, who is in Heavens, asking patronage of the Holy Virgin. Especially touching and sublimely sounded eternal melody of "Ave Maria" within the walls of the temple performed to the accompaniment of Ukrainian instrument bandura performed by a talented parishioner.

Mother's Day in the Orthodox Church has become a symbol of love that has to live in every heart to the Mother of God - the Most Holy Virgin Mary, mother Ukraine - our dear homeland, and to our Mothers on the earth, whom owe our lives to.
